The OnePlus 5 was unveiled yesterday, and while the phone will go on sale from June 27, OnePlus started selling a few devices early at pop-up stores in New York, London, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam, and through an “early drop” page on its website.
The company’s co-founder Carl Pei has now confirmed on Twitter that the OnePlus 5 smartphone has become the fastest selling OnePlus device ever. Unfortunately, Pei hasn’t shared any numbers to support his claim but is likely that it’s based on the response OnePlus 5 has received in pre-orders. Soon after the launch, OnePlus 5 was up for pre-orders in select regions with an Early Drop system which will see shipments begin on Wednesday itself. “The first numbers are in, the OnePlus 5 is our fastest selling device ever,” Pei wrote in a tweet.
The screen size is 5.5 inch with a Full HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels that results from a density of 401 pixels per inch and the display is protected by the latest Gorilla Glass 5.
One of the biggest marketed features of the OnePlus 5 is its dual rear cameras. The OnePlus 5 sports a 16 MP main camera (Sony IMX398 sensor, 1.12-micron pixels) with an f/1.7 aperture coupled with a 20 MP telephoto camera (Sony IMX350 sensor, 1-micron pixels) with an f/2.6 aperture. It also sports a 16 MP front camera.
OnePlus 5 price in the US and select European regions starts at $479 (apprx Rs. 31,000) and EUR 499 (apprx Rs. 35,900) respectively for the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant. The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant comes at $539 (apprx Rs. 35,000), and EUR 559 (apprx Rs. 40,000) in the US and the select European markets, respectively.
The phone has Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipest, GPU Aderno 540 and runs on the latest upgraded Android version 7.0 Nougat. The smartphone is fed with all its power from an octa core (2.45 GHz quad core Kryo + 1.9 GHz quad core Kryo) processor. Moreover, the latest chipset of Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 MSM8998 that makes high end gaming and faster multitasking a pleasant experience.
The battery comes with 3300 mAh. The battery is non removeable. The OnePlus 5 also retains the Dash Charge (Quick Charge) technology that charges 60% of battery in just 30 minutes. Company also gives USB Type-C Port facility.
There is nothing new in the connectivity department on the OnePlus 5, except dual SIM slots, 4G, voice over LTE, 3.5 mm audio jack, Wi-Fi 802.11, a/ac/b/g/n, advanced Bluetooth v4.2, A-GPS, Glonass, BDS, mobile hotspot, a Type-C USB v3.1 port and Near Field Connectivity.
