Lenovo on Thursday launched the Moto Z2 Play smartphone that runs on Android 7.1 Nougat, comes with a Moto Voice Assistant, and like its predecessor, supports Moto Mods. The Moto Z2 is a robustly configured handset, an ideal choice for heavy users. Besides, it packs all the modern features like fast charging, fingerprint sensor, Gorilla glass, Super AMOLED display, superb cameras etc., making the Moto Z2 Play worthy of its price. The smartphone will be made available in Lunar Grey and Fine Gold colour variants. It weighs 145 grams, and measures 156.2 x 76.2 x 5.99 mm.
The smartphone is priced at $499 (approx Rs. 32,200) unlocked in the US, where it will go on sale this Summer. There’s no word on India launch yet, though with a Moto event scheduled next week, it’s possible the Moto Z2 Play could make an appearance there.
The phone now has a sleek metal unibody design, instead of the glass back seen on the Moto Z Play, but the connecting pins for the Moto Mods still sit at the back of the phone. The rear camera is still situated inside the round camera bump ring at the back.
Display & Configuration
The Moto Z2 Play features a large 5.5 inch Super AMOLED Full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) display with 401 ppi of pixel density. It is splash proof, and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Acting as the brain of the phone is 2.2 GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 626 processor with Adreno 506 GPU seated upon Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 MSM8976 chipset. The Moto Z2 Play runs on Android v7.1.1 (Nougat) operating system. It has a front fingerprint sensor embedded for security.
Storage & Camera
On the storage ground, two different phone is available which is 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage and 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage. There’s also a microSD card slot option for further expansion of storage (up to 2TB). The smartphone sports a 3.5 mm jack and comes with USB Type-C port.
Now, Coming to the camera features, the Moto Z2 Play sports a 12 MP rear camera with a 1.4-micron pixel sensor, an aperture of f/1.7, a colour correlated temperature (CCT) dual-LED flash, as well as laser and dual autofocus lens (laser autofocus with expanded range up to 5 metres and 3 million dual autofocus pixels), At the front, there is a 5 MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture, wide-angle lens, and a dual-LED CCT flash. Both the snappers capture excellent shots without missing any detail, be it day or night.
Battery & Connectivity
As rumoured, the smartphone packs a 3000mAh battery including TurboPower charger provides 50 percent charge in just 30 minutes, and the battery is rated to deliver up to 30 hours of mixed usage.
Connectivity options on the Moto Z2 Play include 2G, 3G, 4G LTE (supports Indian bands), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/b/n, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth v4.2, USB Type-C, GPS with A-GPS, Glonass, a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, FM radio, and GPS/ A-GPS. Sensors on board include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, magnetometer, and proximity sensor.
